Founded in 2006 in Kojima, Momotaro Jeans continues the pure tradition of post-war denim makers. Today, the brand is recognized as a benchmark for selvedge jeans by purists.
Momotaro (the peach boy) is a hero from Japanese folklore whose legend has been orally passed down from generation to generation. He is associated with the city of Okayama, where the story is believed to have been invented.
In just a few years, the Okayama region has become the world capital of selvedge, with over a hundred spinning mills, particularly in the cities of Kojima, Kurashiki, and Okinawa. Naturally, the region has given rise to brands such as Studio D'artisan, Iron Heart, and Momotaro, which have become global references in the denim world. Momotaro is a branch of Japan Blue Co Ltd, which includes Collect Ltd (founded in 1992), Rampuya&Co (1996), and Momotaro and Japan Blue. Among the first manufacturers to revive selvedge production, the company initially started by selling its fabrics to luxury brands before deciding, from 2006, to create its own brands Momotaro and Japan Blue.
