Description

The Double Face Crew Socks take direct inspiration from the thick socks traditionally used for mountaineering. Their distinctive feature lies in a double-face construction combining two materials with complementary functions: merino wool is used on the outside for its natural insulating properties, while the inside is knitted from organic cotton. Knitted into loops similar to a terry fabric, the cotton creates a thick, cushioned surface that feels particularly soft against the foot. The term “Double Face” therefore does not mean that the socks are reversible, but refers to the deliberate use of two different materials on the inner and outer surfaces.

This version specifically uses Chamen cotton, a naturally brown cotton whose colour is achieved without dyeing. Its distinctive shade comes directly from the fibre itself, giving the inside of the sock its characteristic brown appearance.

This construction creates a thick, cushioned sock with a feel almost reminiscent of the inside of a sweatshirt. The substantial knit provides welcome insulation during winter while retaining the comfort required for all-day wear.

Like all ROTOTO socks, this model is made in Nara Prefecture, Japan's historic centre for sock manufacturing. Local sock production dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, and the region continues to preserve considerable expertise in selecting and operating different types of knitting machines.

ROTOTO's approach is precisely to match the machine to the yarn, material and intended purpose of each product. Depending on the design, the brand works with both vintage mechanical knitting machines and modern equipment, with each construction developed in close collaboration with the craftspeople responsible for its production.

Fit & Sizing

The Double Face Crew Socks feature an intentionally thick and enveloping construction. The stretch knit allows them to adapt naturally to the foot while maintaining a secure and comfortable fit.

Size S fits feet measuring 23 to 25cm, approximately EU 37-40; size M fits 25 to 27cm, approximately EU 41-44; and size L fits 27 to 29cm, suitable for sizes above EU 44.
