ROTOTO socks are manufactured in the largest sock-producing region of Japan, Nara Prefecture. The region has been known for its quality textiles since the 17th century. Industrial production of socks was first introduced in 1910, when a man from the former village of Umami (now Koryocho) imported a weaving machine from the United States to his hometown after his study trip to the country.
ROTOTO places great emphasis on collaboration in its product research: "We start by selecting the right yarns with craftsmen to develop the design of a new material. After that, we choose the knitting machines based on the type of material and the product's use. This can be rare machines that have a specific use, old non-computerized knitting machines, or, on the contrary, modern high-tech tools.
ROTOTO socks can only be made by combining the right materials, the right machine, and the artisan's know-how.
"Preserving the tradition handed down from previous generations, while painting the future with a fresh outlook. We will continue to try to produce things that can only be created here."
