Batoner

Founded in 2013 in Sagae, Yamagata Prefecture, Batoner is a Japanese brand specialising in knitwear. The label was created by Okuyama Meriyasu, a family-run knitting factory established in 1951 and known for producing knitwear for numerous fashion houses and clothing brands.

Yamagata has a long tradition of knitwear manufacturing. Once an important region for wool production and spinning, it remains home to a network of highly specialised craftsmen and factories with whom Batoner works closely. Even the yarns used for the brand’s knitwear are spun locally in Sagae before being transformed through generations of regional expertise.

From the selection of raw fibres to the finished garment, Batoner pays close attention to every stage of production. Merino wool, cashmere, alpaca and other natural fibres are carefully worked to create knitwear that combines softness, comfort and durability.

Rather than following short-lived trends, Batoner focuses on understated sweaters, cardigans and knitted garments whose character comes from exceptional materials and highly accomplished knitting techniques.

Through Batoner, Okuyama Meriyasu continues to pass Yamagata’s knitwear heritage on to a new generation, offering a contemporary vision of Made in Japan knitwear defined by precision, craftsmanship and longevity.
