Harley of Scotland is one of the few Scottish manufacturers specialising in “seamless” knitwear, knitted as a single piece without traditional side seams or cutting the fabric.
Founded in 1929 by Peter Harley Buchan, the company remains family-run today. Its factory is still located on its historic site in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, where the collections continue to be produced.
The company originally produced socks for local fishermen before gradually expanding its range, drawing particular inspiration from the beauty and symbolism of traditional Fair Isle patterns and the textile heritage of Scotland’s Northern Isles.
Harley sweaters are made using carefully selected Scottish and Italian yarns, ranging from classic Supersoft Shetland to fine lambswool and cashmere. The brand is particularly renowned for its authentic Shetland knitwear and its signature Shaggy sweaters, which are brushed to give the wool its distinctive soft and fuzzy appearance.
Since 2001, Harley of Scotland has specialised in “seamless” knitwear. This technique allows each garment to be knitted as a single piece without traditional side seams, providing excellent freedom of movement, a natural fit and exceptional comfort.
For several years, we also worked with Harley of Scotland and Scottish yarn spinner Gardiner to develop exclusive Harley × Flâneurs colours. Over the seasons, these creations became true classics of our selection and played an important role in developing our own approach to Scottish knitwear.
Since 2026, this work has continued through our own Flâneurs Knitwear label, through which we now develop our collections and exclusive Scottish knitwear colours.
