Reproduction of Found is a Japanese footwear brand from Eye Found Co. Ltd, established in 2016 around a simple idea: discovering forgotten military footwear in the archives and reinterpreting it for contemporary use.
As its name suggests, Reproduction of Found draws inspiration from historical footwear produced between the 1950s and 1990s. The brand notably studies training shoes developed for different armed forces around the world — including German, French, Canadian, British, American and Russian models — before reworking their materials, proportions and selected details.
Production is mainly entrusted to specialist manufacturers in Eastern Europe, in regions with a long tradition of military and athletic footwear production. Traditional manufacturing methods and vintage machinery are still used where appropriate to recreate the construction and character of the original reference models.
The brand’s most iconic style remains the German Army Trainer, or GAT, a German military training shoe recognised for its minimalist construction and gum sole. Reproduction of Found offers numerous interpretations of the design, experimenting with leather, suede, textiles, soles and colours while retaining the functional simplicity of the original.
The result is understated and timeless footwear whose appeal lies as much in its history as in the quality of its materials and construction. It reflects a distinctly Japanese approach to reproduction: studying a utilitarian object, preserving what makes it essential and subtly adapting it for everyday wear.
