Since 1922, the history of Le Minor has been closely connected to Breton knitwear and traditional seafaring clothing. That year, Berthe Étui founded the Manufacture Bonneterie Lorientaise in Lorient, initially producing warm garments designed in particular for local fishermen.
Over the decades, the company developed a wardrobe that became synonymous with Brittany, including the sailor sweater, Breton striped shirt, officer sweater and iconic Kabig. While much of the French textile industry disappeared or moved its production overseas, Le Minor chose to preserve its workshops and manufacturing expertise in Brittany.
Based in Guidel, Morbihan, the manufacturer still carries out the main stages of production within its own workshops, including knitting, cutting, sewing and finishing. This rare expertise and its continued transmission were recognised in 2023 with the French Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label.
Taken over in 2018 by Jérôme Permingeat and Sylvain Flet, Le Minor entered a new chapter in its history. While preserving its heritage and traditional manufacturing methods, the company has renewed its collections, developed new fabrics and reinterpreted historic garments through more contemporary silhouettes.
It is this shared desire to keep traditional craftsmanship alive without allowing it to become static that led us to develop several Le Minor × Flâneurs collaborations. Reworked Breton shirts, exclusive knitwear and Noragi jackets bring together Le Minor’s Breton maritime heritage and our own longstanding connection with Japanese clothing.
