STUDIO D'ARTISAN & CO. (abbreviated as SDA) was founded in 1979 in Osaka by Shigeharu Tagaki.
Having learned the craft in France, upon his return to Japan he wanted to recreate and continue the story of "real jeans." To do this, he used ancient looms found in Okayama, which produce a fabric that has lost its character in mass production.
The "artisanal" style, maintained since its creation, is not about faithfully reproducing vintage models but about innovating by adding their own essence and interpretation, while respecting Japanese traditions as a guideline.
A founding member of the prestigious Osaka 5, along with Denime, Evisu, Fullcount, and Warehouse, SDA has contributed to the revival of denim in Japan and paved the way for many brands and manufacturers wishing to perpetuate Japanese craftsmanship.
