SEUVAS is a young Japanese label based in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture. Inspired by workwear and military clothing, the brand creates simple, functional garments centred around one of the region’s signature materials: Japanese canvas.
SEUVAS notably works with fabrics from Takeyari, a historic Kurashiki manufacturer whose origins date back to 1888. Robust and highly textured, this canvas is used in different weights to produce jackets, overshirts and trousers. In its natural form, the fabric is left undyed and untreated, retaining its ecru colour and subtle irregularities that contribute to its distinctive character.
The garments are cut and sewn in SEUVAS’ own workshop in Kurashiki, notably using vintage sewing machines. The brand complements this approach with artisanal details such as porcelain buttons made from Amakusa pottery stone, featured on several of its designs.
Alongside its permanent collection in natural canvas, SEUVAS regularly explores colour through capsules using different dyeing techniques, including coffee, matcha and sumi. These treatments transform the fabric while preserving its texture, allowing each garment to gradually develop its own patina.
We discovered SEUVAS several years before introducing it at Flâneurs and followed the development of this young label while it was still relatively unknown in Europe. We particularly appreciate the way it combines local materials, manufacturing in Kurashiki and traditional workwear references to create simple, durable and easy-to-wear garments.
