Dubble Works is a Japanese brand specialising in T-shirts and sweatshirts inspired by vintage American sportswear. Originally created by Warehouse & Co., the brand is now operated by Sankei Meriyasu, a knitting company founded in 1926 and based in Osaka.
Drawing inspiration from 1950s American sportswear, Dubble Works does more than simply reproduce garments from the past. The brand combines vintage cuts and details with highly specialised Japanese textile expertise, using traditional circular knitting machines that have become extremely rare today.
Dubble Works sweatshirts are notably made from Loopwheel, or “Tsuri-ami”, fabric. Knitted slowly and with very little tension, the resulting material has a remarkably soft, flexible and airy feel while retaining its shape through years of wear and washing. The brand’s sweatshirts also feature characteristic vintage sportswear details including tubular construction, V inserts, flexible ribbing and slightly cropped, boxy silhouettes.
For its signature Heavyweight T-shirts, Dubble Works uses another type of vintage circular knitting machine known as a Standwheeler. Originally developed in Wakayama and now exceptionally rare, these machines can work with much thicker yarns to produce a dense and durable jersey while retaining excellent breathability.
Dubble Works also uses Raffy yarn, incorporating shorter cotton fibres recovered during the combing process. These fibres give the jersey its distinctive texture and subtle irregularities, adding character to the finished garment.
Made in Japan, Dubble Works T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies offer a distinctly Japanese interpretation of vintage American sportswear, combining traditional manufacturing techniques, carefully developed fabrics and garments designed to gain character through years of wear.
