Barnstormer

Founded in 1977, Barnstormer is a Japanese brand specialising in chinos. From the beginning, the company set out to recreate authentic American “Khaki” trousers in Japan, paying particular attention to original patterns, fabrics and construction techniques.

Drawing inspiration from American military clothing of the 1940s and 1950s, Barnstormer has developed many of its trousers from historical officer chinos, including the famous double-pleated style associated with General Douglas MacArthur.

Yet Barnstormer goes beyond straightforward military reproduction. At the heart of the brand is its “Dress Chino” philosophy: constructing a casual pair of trousers with the precision and techniques traditionally associated with tailored clothing. Carefully developed cuts, welt pockets, reinforced waistbands and numerous construction details result in chinos that combine durability with a distinctly refined appearance.

Fabric is equally important. Several of the signature models selected by Flâneurs are made from Japanese military cotton twills developed in the Tohoku region, chosen for their density, comfort and ability to develop character with wear.

From the classic 1001P to the double-pleated 1002P, Barnstormer offers a distinctive interpretation of the chino, combining the heritage of American military clothing with precise Japanese craftsmanship and a sartorial sensibility.
