Founded in 1988 by Yoshiyuki Hayashi, Denime is an iconic Japanese brand that made its name through faithful reproductions of vintage American jeans, particularly styles from the 1950s and 1960s. Since its beginnings, the brand has been committed to accurately recreating some of the most iconic models in denim history, carefully studying their cuts, fabrics and construction details while relying on traditional Japanese manufacturing methods and expertise.
In collaboration with Kurabo Industries, one of the historic names in Japanese denim manufacturing, Denime develops selvedge fabrics inspired by vintage American denim and woven on traditional shuttle looms. Particular attention is paid to the choice of fibres, spinning, indigo dyeing and weaving in order to recreate not only the appearance and texture of vintage jeans, but also their ability to evolve and develop a unique patina over time.
This pursuit of authenticity extends to the smallest construction details, including unsanforized denim on selected models, cotton sewing threads, carefully chosen components and construction methods directly inspired by archival garments. This meticulous approach has earned Denime a distinctive place in the world of premium Japanese denim and made the brand particularly appreciated among vintage denim enthusiasts.
Denime is also part of the prestigious “Osaka Five”, a group of five brands that played a major role in the rise of Japanese denim: Denime, Evisu, Fullcount, Studio D’Artisan and Warehouse & Co.
Today, Denime operates under the direction of Warehouse & Co., whose expertise in studying and reproducing vintage garments has allowed the brand to continue and further develop the work it began in 1988. Current collections continue to explore different periods in the history of American jeans, maintaining the same focus on fabrics, traditional manufacturing methods and the way denim evolves with wear.
More than thirty-five years after its creation, Denime remains true to its original philosophy: recreating the spirit and qualities of the great jeans of the past through the precision and craftsmanship of Made in Japan denim.
