Pure Blue Japan is the project of Kenichi Iwaya, a true denim enthusiast who grew up in Okayama. After gaining experience working in various factories in the region, he decided in 1997 to create his own brand. Iwaya-San has since been obsessed with producing amazing fabrics with unique textures and distinct character.
Over the years, Pure Blue Japan has earned a strong reputation among denim lovers worldwide, producing unique, artisanal-scale pieces each season with undeniable quality. The WSB-019 demonstrates the prowess of Pure Blue Japan's craftsmen, aptly called "Masters of Slub". This fabric offers a perfect blend between the feel of a medium-weight denim and the appearance of a heavy-weight denim, providing a unique sensory experience for denim enthusiasts. Weighing 16oz, substantial yet versatile, the fabric features significant weaving irregularities and cotton yarns that give it a shimmering appearance and a grainy texture, typical of the manufacturer. A "slub" texture that will truly come into its own over time with wear and washes, as the patina evolves. The production is very exclusive, as Pure Blue Japan can only weave such fabrics in small series, ensuring the unique aura of each piece.
It is crafted in one of PBJ's most popular cuts, the 019 Relaxed Tapered, offering a high and comfortable waist, generous thigh opening followed by a tapered leg from the knee down for a more versatile silhouette.
All the iconic details of this renowned manufacturer are, of course, present: rope-lined belt loops, back pockets with hidden rivets, embossed lamb leather patch, and the famous "Shoaï" indigo leaf embroidered on the right back pocket. All these finishes, combined with the low production of these models, make this jean a staple in the Japanese denim landscape.
