A cornerstone of the Osaka 5, a group comprising the greatest Japanese denim manufacturers, Studio D'Artisan is a pioneering brand with over 40 years of experience in the field. They also actively contribute to the preservation of certain traditional techniques, exclusive to Japan, through unique pieces such as the Type II SP-107 jacket from the "Extreme Denim" series, part of the collection dedicated to the 45th anniversary of Studio D'Artisan presented here.

Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this jacket draws its design from the 1953 Type II jean jacket, known for its pronounced short and boxy cut. With its 2 buttoned chest pockets, action pleats, and button tabs on either side of the waist, it can easily be worn alone, over a sweatshirt, or as an additional layer over a thicker jacket. The uniqueness of this jacket lies in its fabric, aptly named Extreme Denim, a 16oz selvedge denim with an unconventional texture that blends slub yarns and pronounced neps. It is certainly one of the most beautiful denims seen at Flâneurs.

This fabric immediately reflects the Japanese heritage in dyeing and artisanal expertise in weaving. The warp threads (outer) are dyed with natural indigo using the traditional kasezome method, a traditional Japanese dyeing technique here combined with super-slub No. 5 and No. 6 threads to achieve significant texture variations. The weaving is then performed on old shuttle looms with varying tension levels to enhance the texture while ensuring the fabric's durability. Every detail on this jacket demonstrates the dedication and craftsmanship of Studio D'Artisan, from the custom copper buttons to the selvedge edging on the inside of the button placket and inside of the collar, to the embossed cowhide leather patch applied after the jacket's pre-wash to maintain its clean and smooth appearance.
