Moonstar offers us the Mudguard, a model that could be described as "all-terrain". Most of the canvas is covered with a durable rubber providing added protection against the elements, whether it's snow, rain, or, as its name "Mud Guard" suggests, mud.
The brand uses a multitude of traditional techniques to create minimalist and functional shoes. They are constructed from a 100% cotton canvas called "Good Weaver", made using a technique called "Kurume Kasuri" which takes about 3 months of weaving.
The sneakers are first sewn and assembled by hand in the Kurume factory, then the canvas is covered with a layer of rubber using the traditional vulcanization process called "Ka-ryu", used today by a handful of skilled artisans. This technique involves baking the shoe in an oven at 200°C for one hour, which gives their rubber soles excellent flexibility and increased durability. The sneakers feature a classic reinforced toe and a high-grip outsole.
Moonstar sizes are quite standard. If you are between two sizes, opt for the larger size.
