Oni is a mysterious label behind which hides a true denim enthusiast who has dedicated 60 years of his life to denim. Always striving for perfection, Oishi-san is in constant search and dedicates himself solely to production. This is why you will not find a website or an official Instagram page for the brand. It is also for this reason that the label is only distributed in a few stores around the world and only at Flâneurs for France.
Produced in a 15oz weight, the "Ishikawadai" is made from cotton spun on an Ishikawadai Japanese machine, the oldest of its kind, dating from 1953. Unlike modern machines, the Ishikawadai spins the cotton at a much slower speed, about 30%, which results in a less stressed cotton fiber and gives the fabric a natural look. A finish similar to hand spinning, with subtle variations in thickness and a grainy texture.
Another distinctive feature of this model is that it is woven with the same cottons as the famous Secret Denim, an iconic model from Oni. Its unique color is achieved by combining a chain yarn dyed in so-called Greencast indigo, with green/blueish hues, and a weft yarn dyed beige. This combination, coupled with very low tension weaving on a 1950s shuttle machine, will result in a patina unlike any other.
The 288 "Regular Straight" cut features a high waist, a deep rise, and a straight fit from the thigh to the leg opening. It is a silhouette that recalls the traditional straight cuts that have marked the history of denim.
