ONI Denim is a mysterious label led by a true enthusiast who has devoted 60 years of his life to denim. Always in pursuit of perfection, Oishi-san is constantly innovating and focuses solely on production. This is why you won't find a website or official Instagram page for the brand. It’s also why the label is only distributed in a few stores around the world and exclusively at Flâneurs for France.

For the warmer and more summery temperatures ahead, ONI offers us a fabric that brilliantly mixes the typical characteristics of the Japanese manufacturer with a more versatile weight than the thicker fabrics usually provided. Weighing 14oz, this selvedge denim is made from a meticulous blend of American cottons, with highly irregular threads. The yarns making up the warp (outer) are dyed in a very deep indigo, and the yarns making up the weft (inner) are dyed in black sulfur, thus achieving a very dark overall look. In addition to this slub appearance, the weaving is performed at very low tension, which brings out the natural irregularities of the fabric and highlights the quality and craftsmanship known to Oishi-San.

The pre-washing, in the form of the legendary Tempi treatment, sets the size and prevents any possible shrinkage. This technique also gives the fabric a roughness and a dry touch that will fade over time to give way to comfort and a nuanced, iridescent patina.

The 622 is a Relaxed Tapered cut, with a medium rise that fits snugly, followed by a comfortable thigh opening and a tapered leg from the knee down. This model is delivered in One Wash, washed once and then sun-dried in Japan, thus setting the size while bringing out the depth of the indigo and the characteristic touch of "slubby" fabrics.
