Velva Sheen was founded in Cincinnati in 1932 and had its heyday as a pioneer in licensed and custom apparel printing, especially for American schools and sports teams. After changing hands, the company gradually fell into obscurity in the mid-1990s.
We must wait for the arrival of Topwin Company, a Japanese company based in California, and the passion of Hide Murase, to see the rebirth of this small piece of American heritage. Hide was keen to pay tribute to the brand's roots by preserving every detail, down to the original plastic packaging. The T-shirts and sweatshirts... Velva Sheen are still entirely made in the United States today and have gained a solid reputation due to their impressive weights but especially because they have retained their vintage tubular construction: they are woven in one piece (without side seams) which makes them much more robust and prevents them from twisting over time.
