Pure Blue Japan is the project of Kenichi Iwaya, a true denim enthusiast who grew up in Okayama. After gaining experience working in various factories in the region, he decided in 1997 to create his own brand. Since then, Iwaya-San has been obsessed with producing incredible fabrics with unique textures and distinctive character.

Over the years, Pure Blue Japan has earned a strong reputation among denim enthusiasts worldwide, producing unique pieces each season on a small, artisanal scale with undeniable quality. This Type II jacket demonstrates the expertise of the Pure Blue Japan artisans, aptly called "Masters of Slub". This fabric offers a perfect blend between the feel of a medium-weight denim and the appearance of a heavy-weight denim, providing a unique sensory experience for denim lovers. Weighing 16oz, it is substantial yet versatile, featuring significant irregularity in weaving and cotton yarns that give it an iridescent appearance and a grainy texture, typical of the manufacturer. A "slub" texture that will truly come into its own with wear and washes, as the patina evolves. The production is very exclusive, as Pure Blue Japan can only weave such fabrics in small batches, ensuring the uniqueness of each piece.

Retaining the original details of the classic Type II jackets that appeared in the early 1950s, this model features two buttoned flap chest pockets, a five-button closure, waist adjustment tabs on each side, the famous back pleats on either side of the button placket, and contrasting stitching.

This version offered by PBJ has, however, been slightly modified, including the addition of two side hand pockets, as well as a longer overall length and a slightly narrower armhole than the original models.

The iconic details of this renowned manufacturer are of course present, with a set of branded iron buttons, an embossed lamb leather patch, and the famous "Shoaï" indigo leaf embroidered on the side seam at the left hip. All these finishes, combined with the low production of these models, make this jacket a must-have in the landscape of Japanese denim.
