The Shaggy Dog Sweater, named by Irving Press—son of the brand’s founder—after the fluffy coat of his dog, is an iconic symbol of classic Ivy Style produced by J. Press, a house founded in 1902 in the United States. For decades, this sweater has represented traditional style and the superior quality of authentic Shetland knitwear.
Recently, J. Press reimagined this classic by launching a Made in Japan version in collaboration with Yonetomi Seni, a renowned Japanese knitwear manufacturer established in 1952 in Yamagata, known for its refined craftsmanship and advanced knitting techniques. This sweater combines genuine British Shetland wool, traditional hand- or high-quality machine-knitting, and brushing with teasel pods to achieve a soft, shaggy texture that stays true to the original spirit while incorporating contemporary Japanese expertise.
This Japanese edition stands out for its uniquely “shaggy” texture, substantial weight, and timeless elegance. It’s a versatile piece, ideal for autumn and winter, that can be styled in both classic and modern ways.
Each piece is a testament to the collaboration between J. Press and Yonetomi Seni, part of the “Heritage Stock” program by J. Press Originals — an initiative dedicated to reinterpreting timeless wardrobe icons through the lens of Japanese craftsmanship.
This model fits true to size — you can choose your usual size or go one size up for a slightly looser silhouette.
