Driven by a desire to perpetuate French craftsmanship and local consumption, Manufacture Bontemps has been manufacturing footwear in Nantes since 2021, demonstrating real expertise and an unending passion for authentic manufacturing techniques.

The Derby MBF 102 is a streamlined version of the MBF 101 by Manufacture Bontemps. A true timeless piece, it features the traditional patterning of a Derby with balanced lines and a plain upper for more versatility and modernity.

It is made from full-grain calf leather, oil-tanned. This leather, sourced from a tannery in Alsace, is recognized for its durability, flexibility, and water-resistance. The various pieces of leather that make up the shoe are assembled together with thread sourced from Comines, in the north of France, by a manufacturer specializing in high-quality shoe threads since 1848.

The shoe is then mounted on a natural rubber blend sole, produced in the Allier. This sole, comfortable and robust, has been proven over many years of use by the French Army. It is connected to the Derby via a sandalette stitch, a lesser-known alternative to the Goodyear and Norwegian welts. Here doubled to enhance its durability, this stitching is more flexible, lighter, and generally used on mountain shoes for its water-resistance. Just like other more popular types of stitching, it also allows the shoe to be resoled.

Finally, the round laces, made from certified organic cotton Oeko-Tex, are slowly woven on old 19th-century wooden looms near Cholet, in Maine-et-Loire.
