Oni is a mysterious label, driven by a true enthusiast who has dedicated 60 years of his life to denim. Always striving for perfection, Oishi-san is constantly in pursuit, dedicating himself exclusively to production. This is why you won't find a website or an official Instagram page for this brand. It is also the reason why the label is distributed only in a few stores around the world, and exclusively at Flâneurs in France.

For this Fall/Winter 2024 season, Oni is pleased to once again offer a model first introduced in Japan: the Kasuri. Incredibly popular and, for some stores, sold out in one day, it is a highly anticipated release with results exactly as envisioned. To create this fabric, the unparalleled Oishi-San chose a combination of very irregular cotton, a very low tension weaving, and a particular dyeing technique: Kurume Kasuri, listed as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO since 1957. This technique involves making indigo absorption heterogeneous by tightly wrapping knotted threads at specific points of the cotton thread, thus preventing them from being dyed during the indigo bath.

The result of this precise mix of weaving and dyeing is a very graphic, iridescent, and granular fabric which, despite its final weight of 17oz, turns out to be surprisingly flexible and comfortable. All the usual details offered by Oni are there, from branded rivets to the leather patch, all combined with chain stitch seams in the pure tradition of Japanese selvedge denim. Interestingly, the selvedge edge here is bicolor, purple and yellow, earning Oishi-San a comparison to the NBA team, the Lakers.

The 902 "High Rise Relaxed Tapered" is a contemporary cut, with a high and snug waist, followed by a comfortable thigh opening that tapers from the knee down to the lower leg. This model is delivered in One Wash, washed once and then sun-dried in Japan, thus setting the size while bringing out the depth of the indigo and the characteristic feel of the slubby fabrics.
