Contrary to the current trend of fast production, these Cotton Waffle Crew Socks are intentionally knitted using an old non-computerized knitting machine. The surface features a traditional thick waffle fabric, while the fabric used for the sole is smooth and plain for added comfort. With their medium thickness, these socks can be worn with any type of shoes throughout the year.
It is strongly advised to avoid the tumble dryer, which could cause shrinkage.
ROTOTO socks are made in Nara Prefecture, the largest sock-producing region in Japan. The region has been known for its quality textiles since the 17th century. Industrial sock production was first introduced in 1910, when a man from the former village of Umami (now Koryocho) imported a weaving machine from the United States to his hometown after a study trip to the country.
ROTOTO places great value on collaboration in its product research: "We start by selecting the right yarns with craftsmen to develop the design of a new material. After that, we choose the knitting machines based on the type of material and the use of the product. It could be rare machines that have a specific use, old non-computerized knitting machines, or alternatively, modern high-tech tools."
ROTOTO socks can only be made by combining the right materials, the right machine, and the craftsman's know-how.
"Preserving the tradition inherited from previous generations, while painting the future with a fresh perspective. We will continue trying to produce things that can only be created here."
