SNS Herning

The brand S.N.S. HERNING was founded in 1931 by SØREN NIELSEN SKYT (1899–1972) in Herning, Denmark.
As a young man, he earned his living by selling knits he produced himself. Towards the end of the 1920s, he learned about a knitting technique called "bubble stitch" that improved the garment's insulating quality. Using this technique, he started producing the "FISHERMAN" model, a sweater designed to withstand the wear and tear caused by the hard work of sailors and to protect them from the weather.

For over 80 years, several generations of knitters have worked at the S.N.S. HERNING factory. They have all contributed to creating a shared knowledge, which today is the source of inspiration for the knitwear collections. Each new season, the knitwear collections from S.N.S. HERNING are either exact reproductions or models inspired by samples or designs from the factory's archives.

"All our knits are in some way members of the same family. They all descend from the patriarch. Staying true to a few simple principles and doing our best to produce good knits that withstand the changing mores of fashion is our company's project for several generations. At the S.N.S. HERNING factory, knitting is done on old German STOLL machines. While knitting is a purely mechanical process, nothing would be possible without the craftsmanship brought by the artisan operating the machine. That’s why every knit leaving the S.N.S. HERNING factory bears the signature of the artisan who made it."
