"More Wear, More Wonderful" is the guiding philosophy of Omoto Denim, a young Japanese label founded by Hiroki Kishimoto, former managing director of Japan Blue Jeans. Working with some of Japan’s most skilled craftsmen, Omoto continues the legacy of Japanese denim by blending traditional techniques with modern precision.
This 16oz denim stands out for its distinctive neppy texture, created by using short-staple cotton fibers (27mm or less) for the warp yarns. The weft yarns are spun with the traditional “Gara-bo” method, giving the fabric a natural, hand-spun feel and airy character.
Rope-dyed in pure indigo, the warp yarns produce a deep, rich blue that fades over time with sharp, high-contrast patterns. Woven at low tension on a vintage Toyoda GL8 automatic loom from the 1950s, the fabric develops a dense yet textured hand with lasting durability. This pair is non-sanforized but pre-washed, keeping the natural feel of the cotton while fixing the size and providing comfort from the very first wear.
The 0612 Relax Fit offers a straight, easy fit with a mid-rise designed to sit just below the waist. It features a roomy thigh and a subtle taper from knee to hem. Finishing touches include the signature "Mimi" selvedge ID, a sheep leather patch, and herringbone pocket bags with a woven label designed to record wears and washes—letting you trace the denim’s evolution year after year.
