Selvedge
A selvedge jean refers to a pair of jeans made from denim woven on traditional shuttle looms, producing a tightly woven fabric with clean, finished edges. These edges—called "self-edge" or "selvedge"—are often visible on the outseam and usually marked by a colored line (typically red or white).
Selvedge denim is denser, more durable, and develops a unique patina over time with wear. Many of the finest selvedge fabrics today come from Japan, particularly the Okayama region, known for preserving exceptional craftsmanship. Japanese denim stands out for its high-quality cotton, deep indigo dye, and artisanal weaving methods.
Selvedge jeans are a benchmark in premium denim, embodying both heritage and character—especially when made from Japanese denim.
