"More Wear, More Wonderful" is the philosophy behind Omoto Denim, a young Japanese label founded by Hiroki Kishimoto, former managing director of Japan Blue Jeans. Working with skilled craftsmen, Omoto preserves and carries forward the legacy of Japanese denim using traditional techniques combined with modern standards.
This 16oz denim features a pronounced neppy texture, recognized by its natural irregularities. The warp yarns are made from short-staple cotton fibers (27mm or less), giving a slightly raw appearance, while the weft yarns are spun using the traditional “Gara-bo” method, creating a rustic, hand-spun feel.
Rope-dyed in pure indigo, the warp yarns develop a deep blue shade that gradually reveals high-contrast fades over time. Woven at low tension on a 1950s Toyoda GL8 automatic loom, the fabric gains a dense yet textured hand and durable structure. This model is non-sanforized but pre-washed, preserving the natural feel of the cotton while stabilizing the size and providing immediate comfort without risk of shrinkage.
The 0412 Straight Fit offers a modern straight cut, inspired by tailored trousers and natural body lines. Designed with a mid-rise that sits on the hips, it features a comfortable thigh and a tapered leg that narrows gently from the knee to the hem. Signature details include the "Mimi" selvedge ID, sheep leather patch, and herringbone pocket bags with a sewn-in label to record wears and washes, allowing you to track the denim’s evolution over time.
