These Kasuri Ribbed Crew Socks are knitted using a blend of multicolored dyed yarns according to the traditional Japanese Kasuri technique and exclusive organic cotton yarns, developed in collaboration with a renowned spinning mill. The complex shades of the Kasuri dye and the uneven surface of the "Slub" yarn give each item a unique appearance, while the thickness of the fabric is ideal for year-round use.
ROTOTO socks are manufactured in Japan’s largest sock-producing region, Nara Prefecture. The region has been known for its quality textiles since the 17th century. Industrial production of socks was first introduced in 1910, when a man from the former village of Umami (now Koryocho) imported a weaving machine from the United States to his hometown after studying abroad in the country.
ROTOTO places great importance on collaboration in its product research: "We start by selecting the right yarns with craftsmen to develop the design of a new material. After that, we choose the knitting machines based on the type of material and the use of the product. This might involve rare machines that have a specific use, old non-computerized knitting machines, or, conversely, modern high-tech tools."
ROTOTO socks can only be made by combining the right materials, the right machine, and the craftsman’s know-how.
"Preserving the tradition inherited from previous generations, while painting the future with a fresh perspective. We will continue to try to produce things that can only be created here."
