Brand

SEUVAS is a young Japanese label based in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture. Inspired by workwear and military styles, the brand offers garments made from exceptional Canvas by Takeyari, a local manufacturer that has been producing this material for 130 years. SEUVAS manufactures jackets, shirts, and trousers in natural Canvas as part of its permanent collection, and each season, it releases a new capsule featuring organic dyes such as matcha tea, coffee, or charcoal.

Material

The Japanese label naturally opts for an 8oz canvas made in Kojima, Japan. A true signature of the brand since its inception, the canvas is known and recognized for its durability and strength over time. The fine particulates of cotton husks distinguishable on the surface of the canvas add a certain character to this jacket.

Natural Matcha Dye

After initially offering its pieces in "Natural" Canvas (untreated and undyed), SEUVAS has introduced them in a lovely Matcha shade. To achieve this, the Japanese label uses plant-based pigments to obtain a soft and subtle dye. After six months of trials, the brand has perfected its matcha dyes by combining ancient Japanese techniques with modern technology. The goal is to use a low percentage of chemical dyes to prevent fading and enhance the fabric's durability while minimizing environmental impact. Created in Kojima, the dye uses matcha leaves to create unique textures and varied colors like gray and beige, thanks to the matcha tannins. Each piece, hand-dyed, incorporates traditional craftsmanship.

Details

SEUVAS offers us a piece that is halfway between a jacket and an overshirt, perfect for warm weather and summer temperatures! Following the codes of traditional work jackets, it features a chest pocket along with two patch pockets. The button placket features a hand-painted "Amakusa" porcelain button. To make the canvas more comfortable from the first wear and to prevent any shrinkage, the jacket has been pre-washed by the brand. To add a touch of originality, as well as to pay homage to traditional Japanese garments, there are two drawstrings on either side of the jacket.
