The Box Shirt by Sugar & Co. was created to celebrate the brand’s 5th anniversary, using a special fabric developed by skilled artisans from the Niigata region. This piece pays tribute to iconic surf shirts from the 1960s, famously worn by the Beach Boys, key figures of American surf culture.

It features a straight cut, a short length, and a relaxed silhouette, making it perfectly suited to a casual style. Originally popular among surfers for its ability to remain comfortable even when wet, this shirt has become over time a timeless classic that remains just as relevant today.

While wool was historically the reference material for this type of garment, Sugar & Co. chose to use a 100% cotton fabric to provide greater comfort and ease of care, while preserving the expected thermal and sensory qualities.

The fabric is produced using a triple-twisting technique, in which three cotton yarns are twisted together. This long and demanding process gives the textile a natural warmth, excellent insulation, and remarkable softness. Its thickness and slightly fluffy appearance offer a texture that rivals that of wool.

Rich in natural oils, the fabric gradually softens with wear and develops a texture increasingly close to wool over time. Both simple and expressive, the silhouette combined with this distinctive fabric fully embodies the spirit and meticulous craftsmanship that define Sugar & Co. in the creation of durable, authentic garments designed to evolve with the wearer.
