Based on the design of "tube socks" made in the USA in the late 1970s, these ribbed socks from ROTOTO are made on a rare old knitting machine, using low-tension cotton yarns. The inside of the sole part is brushed for a unique fleecy feel, characteristic of the Japanese brand.
ROTOTO socks are manufactured in the largest sock-producing region of Japan, Nara Prefecture. The region has been known for its quality textiles since the 17th century. Industrial production of socks was first introduced in 1910 when a man from the former village of Umami (now Koryocho) imported a weaving machine from the United States to his hometown after a study trip in the country.
ROTOTO places great value on collaboration in its product research: "We start by selecting the right yarns with craftsmen to develop the design of a new material. After that, we choose knitting machines depending on the type of material and the use of the product. This can involve rare machines that have a specific use, old non-computerized knitting machines, or, conversely, modern high-tech tools."
ROTOTO socks can only be made by combining the right materials, the right machine, and the craftsman's expertise.
"Preserving the tradition inherited from previous generations, while painting the future with a fresh perspective. We will continue to try to produce things that can only be created here."
