Beams Plus

Launched in 1999 by Japanese retailer BEAMS, Beams Plus was created with a clear ambition: to make authentic, timeless menswear designed to be worn and enjoyed for many years.

Beams Plus draws much of its inspiration from what the brand considers the golden age of American style, particularly the 1940s through the 1960s. Ivy League and American Traditional sit alongside military clothing, workwear and sportswear, forming a collection built around the enduring classics of the American wardrobe.

Yet Beams Plus is not interested in simply reproducing vintage clothing. Historical garments provide a starting point for a distinctly Japanese process of reinterpretation. Updated proportions, original fabrics, functional details and contemporary construction allow familiar classics to evolve while retaining the qualities that made them relevant in the first place.

Oxford button-down shirts, chambray work shirts, military-inspired jackets, sweatshirts, knitwear and pleated trousers come together to create a remarkably coherent wardrobe, combining relaxed American style with a distinctly Japanese sensibility.

Among the label’s most recognisable pieces is the 2 Pleats Trousers, a double-pleated trouser inspired by vintage American tailoring and defined by its relaxed, tapered silhouette. Flâneurs chose this iconic style as the starting point for an exclusive collaboration with Beams Plus.
