ONI is a mysterious label run by a true denim enthusiast who has devoted 60 years of his life to denim. Always striving for perfection, Oishi-san is constantly innovating and focuses solely on production. This is why you will not find a website or an official Instagram page for the brand. It is also the reason the label is only distributed in a few select shops worldwide and exclusively at Flâneurs for France.

The 20oz Secret Denim is the most iconic jeans at ONI. It is largely due to this fabric that the Japanese label has built its reputation among selvedge denim enthusiasts worldwide. Another distinctive feature of the Secret Denim is its unique color. To achieve this particular shade, the weft yarn is dyed ("rope dyed") with indigo and a slight green hue, known as Greencast. In this version, the weft yarn adopts an Ecru shade, reminiscent of the natural color of cotton, allowing for a warmer wash effect.

This type of fabric cannot be manufactured on modern machines. Indeed, to produce this kind of fabric, shuttle looms are set to a very low level of tension. This specific setting, called "low tension," literally makes the machines shake during the denim's production. By combining this weaving technique with the use of a naturally uneven cotton yarn, the result is a denim even more textured than a classic "slub" fabric, with inherent flexibility and comfortable ease. However, due to the difficulty in mastering this technique, few manufacturers take the risk, but ONI has managed to stand out with a unique fabric whose quality is undisputed.

The 622ZR model is a Relaxed Tapered cut, with a medium rise that hugs the waist, followed by a comfortable thigh opening that tapers down from the knee to the lower leg. This model is delivered in One Wash, washed once and then sun-dried in Japan, which fixes the size while bringing out the depth of the indigo and the characteristic touch of the so-called "slubby" fabrics.
