Thanks to Pierre for lending us this beautiful FFR001 G3 Denim, a denim we created in collaboration with the Japanese label FOB Factory.

Specifics of the FFR001 G3 Denim FOB Factory X Flâneurs

This exceptional fabric is a true ode to the golden age of denim. Made from a blend of American and Australian cotton, rope-spun and dyed with natural indigo, it stands out for the irregularity of its yarns, combined with a very low-tension weaving on the legendary Toyoda G3. The result: a rich texture with a unique relief. Both grainy and rough, it remains supple thanks to its ideal weight of 14oz, a perfect medium weight for year-round wear.

To achieve this result, the jean has been:

  • Worn for just over 3 years
  • Washed over 30 times
  • Reinforced at the crotch and pockets

A few words from Pierre:

"I wore it almost every week during the year it was released, and it was scuffed on my bike saddle during my commutes to work. Afterwards, it became my companion for DIY sessions and forest expeditions. I loved its comfortable fit and the chain-stitch construction at the waist, which allows the denim to hold up despite heavy use."

Comparison: New Jean vs Worn/Faded Jean

The low-tension weaving, characteristic of fabrics made on the Toyoda G3 loom, produces a very distinctive fade.
In addition to wear marks from friction on the jean’s folds, small spots also appear, adding extra texture compared to more traditional selvedge fabric.

Here is also a good example to answer a very common question: “How long should I wait before the first wash?” Pierre chose to wash his jean regularly rather than spacing washes as much as possible.
The images below show that there is no absolute rule: what really matters is the quality of the fabric.

However, regular washing will produce a more even fade, while very infrequent washing will create a patina with much stronger contrasts.

The patch was made of untanned leather; below, you can see how its color has evolved over time.

The evolution of the selvedge edge below:

In the image below, you can clearly see that the chain-stitch construction is essential for the durability of a jean: even with wear, when the thread breaks, the stitch remains in place.
