Description
With this VAT Dye Chambray Work Shirt, Sugar Cane offers a meticulous reproduction of rare mid-20th-century American work shirts. These original garments were designed to withstand the most demanding conditions while providing strong functionality, thanks to durable fabrics and uncompromising construction.
The fabric is a traditional “Bata-shan” chambray, woven with an indigo warp and contrasting weft, creating a subtle yet deep visual effect. It is then treated with a VAT dye process, which produces a richer, more stable, and longer-lasting indigo tone. This treatment also enhances the fabric’s ability to develop a natural patina over time, while maintaining a slightly structured yet comfortable texture.
The construction faithfully follows vintage workwear codes: triple-needle stitching for reinforced durability, elbow reinforcements for improved abrasion resistance, and functional chest flap pockets, one of which includes a pen slot. The overall design reflects a purely utilitarian approach, built to last in demanding work environments.
Made in Japan by Sugar Cane, this shirt showcases the expertise of Toyo Enterprise in historical garment reproduction. It combines American workwear heritage with Japanese craftsmanship precision, resulting in a piece designed to age over time and develop a unique patina specific to its wearer.
