The “Circle” line of jeans from Japan Blue Jeans doesn’t feature a traditional straight waistband like most jeans, but rather a “curved waistband” designed to better fit the natural shape of the waist and offer a better tilt at the back. To shape this curved waistband, Japan Blue uses two layers of denim in the waistband area. This allows the jeans in the Circle collection to have a pronounced tilted waist, sitting slightly lower in the front and rising at the hips and lower back for improved comfort.
The Different Japan Blue Fits in the Circle Collection
We offer four fits: Tapered, Straight, Classic Straight, and Loose
Japan Blue Jeans Tapered Fit
The Tapered is a semi-slim fit. It’s a modern cut, with a pronounced tilted waist, slightly low rise, and comfortable thighs, while maintaining a narrower leg opening than the Straight.

The Circle Jeans Come in Two Different Denims
12.5oz Denim and African Brown Cotton
100% cotton, this is a lightweight denim suitable for warm weather. Japan Blue uses long African cotton fibers, blended with 12% naturally brown cotton. It’s a soft and flexible fabric that will develop a beautiful blue/beige patina as the indigo fades on worn areas, revealing the brown cotton core.
Models (from slimmest to roomiest):
14.8oz Denim and U.S. Cotton (Texas)
100% cotton, this is the classic denim weight — not too thick, not too light — making it the perfect mid-season jean. This authentic and sturdy selvedge denim has a slightly rough texture but a soft feel, thanks to the One Wash treatment. It also has a slightly deeper indigo hue compared to the other fabrics in the selection.
Models (from slimmest to roomiest):
We always receive Japan Blue jeans as "One Wash": pre-washed once. This softens the denim for more comfort from the first wear. It also stabilizes the size to prevent shrinkage during your first wash, so there's no need to size up. The size guide on each product page will help you choose the right fit. Finally, this first wash gives the denim a slightly wrinkled appearance that we love, and a more vibrant blue than raw denim.
