XX Development is a small Japanese manufacturer based in Gifu Prefecture, behind several complementary labels: No Comply Jeans, SURE Manufacturing and Wico and Pals. The project was originally built around figures including Taichi, known as Pony, and Jasmine, who have since been joined by other members as XX Development has grown, including Bouzu. Together, this small team of enthusiasts forms the “Sewing Boys”.
XX Development operates quite differently from a traditional clothing brand. Rather than seasonal collections built around a fixed calendar, its work takes the form of a succession of production projects. A particular fabric, a machine, a vintage garment or simply a new idea can become the starting point for a piece, which is then produced in limited quantities.
The different labels allow the team to explore several sides of this universe. No Comply Jeans focuses primarily on denim and workwear, while SURE Manufacturing develops everyday basics and sportswear with particular attention to fabrics, proportions and construction. Wico and Pals completes the group with more freely conceived projects. Despite their differences, they all share the same passion for vintage American clothing, distinctive fabrics and carefully considered Japanese manufacturing.
Our story with XX Development began in 2022, when we started working directly with Taichi, at a time when No Comply Jeans and SURE Manufacturing were still virtually unknown in Europe. Since then, we have followed the development of both the manufacturer and its growing team, while its different labels have gradually found a distinctive place within our selection.
Most importantly, this relationship allows us to go beyond the traditional connection between a brand and a retailer. With XX Development, we work directly on fabrics, fits, details and manufacturing methods, developing ideas together until they become garments created specifically for Flâneurs.
This close relationship has resulted in several XX Development × Flâneurs collaborations, including our Revival Denim project. Born from a conversation with Pony about a particularly textured denim he had used during his early years, the project perfectly illustrates the way we work together: starting with a story, rediscovering a fabric and turning it into a new production project.
Over the years, XX Development has grown from a highly confidential project into a genuine small team while retaining what originally attracted us to their work: creative freedom, direct proximity to manufacturing and a desire to produce only when a fabric, an idea or a garment genuinely deserves to exist.
