This pair of socks from ROTOTO is made using old knitting machines and a blend of organic cotton thread and silk threads to provide softness and comfort. Its design features exclusive patterns of the brand, knitted in a way that eliminates one of the concerns with Jacquard patterned socks, namely the lack of horizontal elasticity. The many inner threads resulting from this type of weaving are also eliminated, making the sock comfortable and durable.
ROTOTO socks are made in Nara Prefecture, the largest sock-producing region in Japan. The region has been known for its quality textiles since the 17th century. Industrial production of socks was first introduced in 1910 when a man from the former village of Umami (now Koryocho) imported a weaving machine from the United States to his hometown after studying abroad in the country.
ROTOTO places great value on collaboration in its product research: "We start by selecting the right threads with craftsmen to develop the design of a new material. After that, we choose the knitting machines based on the type of material and use of the product. This can be rare machines that have a specific use, old non-computerized knitting machines, or, conversely, modern high-tech tools."
The ROTOTO socks can only be made by combining the right materials, the right machine, and the craftsman's expertise.
