The brand FOB Factory offers a collection dedicated to the G3 loom, a legendary machine from Toyoda that produces a fabric almost impossible to find today. Contrary to popular belief, Japanese jeans are generally made on Japanese looms, notably Toyoda, and not on machines imported from the United States. Indeed, it was at the end of the 19th century that Sakichi Toyoda invented Japan's first mechanical loom, an invention that revolutionized the textile industry of the archipelago. In January 1918, Sakichi founded Toyoda Spinning & Weaving Company and, with the help of his son Kiichiro, he achieved his life's dream by building the country's first automated loom in 1924: the famous G3. Two years later, he founded Toyoda Automatic Loom Works. It was indeed with the 100,000 pounds sterling earned from the sale of the patent for his automated loom that Kiichiro founded Toyota Motor Corporation in 1937. This automatic loom with non-stop shuttle change, called at the time "magical loom," advanced the textile industry worldwide.
Today, only a few skilled and experienced craftsmen can still use this very old machine that can weave only 5 meters of denim per hour.
Using exactly the same blend of American and Australian cotton as in the past, FOB Factory has managed to perfectly reproduce the style of 1950s denim.
It is a 14 oz fabric, therefore relatively light, but with a very strong character.
It has a dry and rough feel and a characteristic neppy appearance due to very low tension weaving.
As it is unsanforized, all FOB pieces made with G3 denim are delivered "One Wash" (already washed). They are thus already pre-shrunk and do not require resizing.
