The Beckman is named after the company's founder, Charles Beckman, a German immigrant who established the Red Wing Shoe Company in 1905. As Mr. Beckman walked through the unpaved, muddy streets of Red Wing, he needed sturdy, robust boots that could be polished to match his status as a businessman. The Beckman 9422 features a Gro-Cord outsole, originally developed exclusively for Red Wing in the 1920s. Today, they are made in partnership with Vibram and offer grip, durability, and comfort on any surface.

The Beckman 9422 is offered in premium Cigar Excalibur leather. Excalibur leather is one of the highest quality leathers from the S.B. Foot Tannery, made from the finest hides available. It is thick and initially stiff but promises exceptional softening and a unique patina over time.
