Jamieson's

Founded in the early 1890s in Sandness, on the west coast of the Shetland Isles, Jamieson’s of Shetland is a family-run company specialising in wool from native Shetland sheep. For five generations, the Jamieson family has preserved and developed a textile tradition deeply connected to the history and landscape of the islands.

In 1981, the family opened its own mill in Sandness, today the only commercial woollen mill in the Shetland Isles. Jamieson’s therefore controls the entire transformation of the wool, from grading and scouring the fleece to dyeing, carding, spinning and knitting the finished garments.

This expertise allows the company to work with 100% pure Shetland wool, prized for its warmth, lightness and distinctive character. Jamieson’s extensive colour palette also makes it possible to recreate the intricate and colourful patterns of traditional Fair Isle knitwear, one of the great symbols of Scotland’s textile heritage.

Still family-run after five generations, Jamieson’s of Shetland remains deeply committed to local production: from fleece to finished knitwear, its yarns and garments are produced entirely in the Shetland Isles.
