Red Wing Shoes

Since 1905, Red Wing Shoes has been making footwear in Minnesota designed to last. The company was founded in Red Wing by Charles Beckman and a group of local investors with a simple ambition: to produce strong, comfortable work boots suited to the needs of American workers.

Throughout the 20^th century, Red Wing developed footwear for American workers, farmers, miners and craftspeople. Many of the styles and functional details that emerged from this history are now brought together within the Red Wing Heritage collection, launched in 2007 to preserve and reinterpret some of the manufacturer’s most iconic archival designs.

Among them, the Classic Moc, whose history dates back to the 1950s, has become one of Red Wing’s most recognisable silhouettes. Alongside it, the Iron Ranger, Roughneck and other styles inspired by historic work footwear follow the same principles: substantial leather, robust construction and boots designed to be worn, maintained and enjoyed for many years.

Much of Red Wing’s identity also comes from its leather. The company owns the S.B. Foot Tanning Company, located in Red Wing, Minnesota. Established in 1872, the tannery develops the leathers used throughout the Heritage collection, including the renowned Oro Legacy, Amber Harness, Copper Rough & Tough and Black Prairie. These leathers are designed to develop a distinctive patina and reveal more character through wear.

Heritage styles combine these leathers with traditional constructions such as the Goodyear Welt, contributing to their durability and allowing many models to be resoled. More than a century after the company was founded, Red Wing continues to manufacture footwear in the United States that remains deeply connected to the history of American workwear and is designed to accompany its owner for many years.
