Description

The #001 Standard Denim Jacket is part of the new generation of pieces developed by Momotaro Jeans around a more contemporary interpretation of its core designs. The brand retains the elements that established its reputation within Japanese denim while revisiting fabrics, proportions and selected functional details.

The jacket is made from a 14.7oz Japanese denim known as TOKUNO BLUE. To achieve its particularly deep indigo colour, Momotaro reconsidered the construction of the fabric itself, using a finer weft yarn to allow the indigo-dyed warp yarns to become more visually prominent. The denim retains a rigid, unwashed finish that emphasises its original texture and colour before gradually developing its own patina through wear.

Momotaro nevertheless applies a treatment to address one of the main drawbacks traditionally associated with rigid denim. Shrinkage after washing is reduced to less than 1%, allowing the wearer to enjoy the character of an unwashed fabric without having to anticipate the substantial dimensional changes usually associated with this type of denim.

The construction references traditional denim jackets while adapting them for contemporary everyday use. A single chest pocket maintains a deliberately clean appearance, while two discreet side pockets provide the practicality often missing from traditional designs. At the back, action pleats increase freedom of movement through the shoulders and arms, while a cinch-back allows the waist to be subtly adjusted.

The jacket is made in Japan, continuing the specialist manufacturing tradition associated with Momotaro Jeans.

Fit & Sizing

The #001 is the widest-fitting denim jacket within Momotaro's Standard range. It features a generous body combined with slightly dropped shoulders, creating a relaxed and contemporary silhouette without pushing the proportions too far.

This construction makes the jacket easy to wear over a T-shirt or shirt while leaving enough room for additional knitwear during colder weather. The action pleats at the back also allow the shoulders and arms to move more freely despite the initial rigidity of the denim.

Although the fabric is supplied rigid and unwashed, Momotaro applies a treatment that limits shrinkage after washing to less than 1%. There is therefore no need to anticipate a significant change in size when selecting the jacket.
