The Union Supply 12.5oz Grade One Ahina Work Jacket by Sun Surf is part of a historically driven approach to mid-20th century Hawaiian workwear reproduction. It pays tribute to Union Supply, a company founded in 1922 to provide durable garments for sugar plantation workers in Hawaii, where durability and functionality were essential.
The fabric used is a 12.5oz Ahina denim, inspired by textiles developed locally to meet the specific climatic conditions of the islands: heat, humidity, and intensive labor. Lighter than some mainland workwear denims, it offers a balance between durability, breathability, and everyday comfort. Its indigo shade is designed to evolve over time and develop a natural patina, true to period garments.
The construction follows the essential codes of traditional work jackets: straight fit, sturdy build, and functional details. The patch pockets enhance everyday usability, while the buttons and finishes are directly inspired by historical models distributed in Hawaii during the first half of the 20th century.
