Description

The Skipper Polo is a new interpretation of the classic Shetland sweater from J. Press. It takes inspiration from the traditional Shaggy Dog, an iconic style named by Irving Press, the founder's son, after the coat of the dog he owned at the time.

This new version retains the spirit of the traditional Shetland sweater while introducing a polo collar that gives it a more contemporary silhouette. Knitted in 5-gauge Scottish Shetland wool, it has a dense and warm knit that is particularly well suited to the colder season.

The surface of the sweater is then teasel brushed, a traditional technique that uses dried teasel heads to raise the fibres of the wool. This finish gives the knit its characteristic appearance, combining a soft, fuzzy and slightly irregular texture.

Made in Japan in collaboration with Yonetomi Seni, a knitwear manufacturer founded in 1952 in Yamagata and renowned for the quality of its craftsmanship, the Skipper Polo combines traditional materials and construction with particularly refined Japanese manufacturing.

Each piece is part of the Heritage Stock programme by J. Press Originals, an initiative dedicated to reinterpreting iconic pieces of classic menswear through Japanese craftsmanship.

Fit

The Skipper Polo has a slightly relaxed fit, faithful to the spirit of traditional Shetland sweaters and designed to be worn either on its own or as a layering piece.

Its saddle shoulder construction naturally complements this shape and provides additional ease through the shoulders and arms.

The Navy colour brings a deep and timeless navy blue tone, making it particularly easy to integrate into a classic wardrobe. It pairs naturally with indigo denim, grey flannel trousers, chinos or moleskin trousers.
