From our new collaboration with Kardo, this long-sleeve Shibori shirt highlights the artisanal craftsmanship of the Indian manufacturer through a traditional textile approach. Made from a lightweight and fluid 100% cotton fabric, it features a versatile straight cut and stands out thanks to its shibori dyeing, an ancestral manual process that gives each piece a unique character. The model is equipped with a buttoned chest pocket, corozo buttons, and an open collar with a button loop, creating a silhouette that is both authentic and contemporary. Entirely cut, sewn, and finished by hand in New Delhi, each shirt comes with a label listing the names of the artisans involved in its creation.
What is Shibori?
Shibori is a traditional resist-dyeing technique originating in Japan, which involves folding, tying, stitching, or compressing the fabric before immersing it in a dye bath. These manipulations prevent the dye from penetrating certain areas, creating organic and irregular patterns once the fabric is unfolded. Entirely carried out by hand, this method never produces two identical results: each shirt therefore displays subtle variations in patterns and shades, reflecting the artisan’s gesture and the living nature of the textile.
