Despite its relatively recent inception in 2013, Batoner is the proprietary brand of the Okuyama Meriyasu knitwear company, established in the 1950s. Batoner, meaning "one who inherits", proudly represents the nearly century-old craftsmanship of the Japanese prefecture of Yamagata, which for many years grouped the best knitting factories in Japan. Today, only about fifteen factories are still operational, each striving to preserve the techniques and traditions that have made this region famous.
This 32G Smooth T-Shirt is made using a delicate process that can only be achieved with very specific knitting machines, utilizing the technology and experience cultivated by Batoner over so many years. The meticulous weaving process is time-consuming, allowing only a small number of pieces to be made each day. The resulting knit combines a great softness to wear with a density that provides exemplary shape retention, even after many wears and washes. By using hand-made linking stitches by craftsmen, the t-shirt maintains its natural elasticity due to the tightness of the stitches typical of knits, and achieves a fluid and relaxed fit. The sleeve edges and hem are also knitted to avoid using classic sewing stitches, giving the piece a neat appearance.
