Founded in New Delhi in 2013, Kardo is an Indian label created with the desire to celebrate the country’s rich heritage of traditional textile craftsmanship while bringing it into a contemporary menswear wardrobe.
Far removed from mass production and fast fashion, Kardo works with artisans and textile communities throughout India. Block Printing, Ikat, Shibori, Chikankari embroidery, natural dyeing, indigo and Handloom fabrics are among the many traditional techniques featured throughout its collections.
Kardo also follows a distinctive production method known as ONExONE: each garment is hand-cut and then sewn from beginning to end by a single tailor before being carefully hand-finished. The clothes are produced in Kardo’s own New Delhi workshop, with each garment carrying a label identifying the craftspeople involved in making it.
This shared philosophy encouraged us to build a close relationship with Kardo and develop our first Kardo × Flâneurs collaboration for Spring/Summer 2022. We created a deliberately simple short-sleeved shirt with a comfortable straight fit, open collar and chest pocket, allowing Kardo’s remarkable fabrics, colours and patterns to take centre stage.
Since then, the collaboration has become a regular part of our collections. Together we select new fabrics and traditional techniques, from Block Print and handwoven fabrics to Ikat, Khadi, Shibori and Ajrakh, now used across different shirts as well as trousers and new garments developed with the brand.
