The Denim Jacket Type II 1953 Model (SC11953) by Sugar Cane is a meticulous reproduction of an iconic model from the transition between workwear and casual clothing in the 1950s. This so-called “2nd type” model is one of the most emblematic silhouettes in American denim history, popularized at the time by figures such as Elvis Presley and later becoming a staple of menswear.

The fabric is an exclusive Japanese selvedge denim weighing 14.25oz, developed by Sugar Cane based on extensive analysis of vintage denims. Its shuttle-loom construction reproduces the irregular texture and rich character typical of period fabrics. Dense yet still supple, this denim is designed to age significantly over time, developing a strong and contrasted patina with wear.

The jacket faithfully reproduces the technical features of the original 1953 model: a short boxy fit, absence of back pleats in favor of front action pleats, flap chest pockets, and a sturdy workwear-oriented structure. Finishing details include copper rivets, enamel-coated metal buttons, and chain-stitch reinforced seams, ensuring strength and durability.

With wear, the fabric gradually softens while the denim slightly relaxes and molds to the body. Like all raw Japanese denim pieces, it evolves through natural wear patterns (creases, fades, stress marks), enhancing its unique character over time.

Made in Japan by Sugar Cane, a brand of the Toyo Enterprise group, this jacket embodies a highly documented approach to American vintage workwear. It combines historical accuracy, Japanese craftsmanship, and premium raw materials to deliver a faithful and living reproduction of a 1950s denim classic.
