FOB Factory F160 '66 Type Selvedge Denim Indigo

With the F160 '66 Type, FOB Factory offers its own interpretation of the famous “66 model”, representative of the period during the 1960s and 70s when American jeans gradually evolved from workwear into an established part of everyday clothing. Made from a 13oz Selvedge denim developed through the analysis of period fabrics, it combines a dry hand, deliberately irregular surface and extensive fading process designed to reproduce indigo denim at one of the most beautiful stages of its evolution.

Description

The F160 '66 Type takes its inspiration from the famous “66 model”, which emerged during a pivotal period in the history of American denim. Throughout the 1960s and 70s, jeans gradually moved beyond their purely utilitarian origins to become an established piece of everyday clothing. It is this evolution, both in silhouette and in the appearance of the denim itself, that FOB Factory seeks to recreate here.

To develop the fabric used for the F160, the Japanese brand began by analysing period denim in order to reproduce its distinctive texture. The result is a 13oz Selvedge denim using air-spun yarn, selected in particular for its characteristically dry hand. Slowly woven on traditional looms, the fabric develops an irregular and expressive surface that recalls the character of the vintage denim used as reference for the model.

The F160 is equally defined by the work that goes into its fading. Rather than simply lightening the fabric, FOB Factory aims to reproduce what the brand considers one of the most beautiful stages in the evolution of a pair of jeans: the point at which the indigo has already lost a significant amount of its original intensity while retaining enough depth to highlight the contrasts created through wear.

The Used treatment is carried out in Okayama, combining modern processing equipment with manual craftsmanship. Characteristic signs of wear found on vintage jeans, including the hige around the upper block and atari created on areas exposed to repeated friction, are carefully recreated. FOB specifies that these effects are worked on one pair at a time by craftsmen in Kojima, allowing for a more nuanced and natural appearance.

The result is therefore not simply a light-wash or artificially aged pair of jeans, but an attempt to reproduce the evolution of denim that has already been extensively worn. The different intensities of indigo fully reveal the dry and irregular texture of the fabric, giving the F160 a visual depth that changes throughout the garment.

The details remain consistent with this vintage inspiration, including a Universal zipper fly, riveted stress points and a screen-printed jacron patch. Made in Japan, the overall construction perfectly illustrates FOB Factory's approach: starting with a historical garment, carefully studying its fabric and proportions, then using the contemporary expertise found in Okayama and Kojima to recreate its distinctive character.

Fit & sizing

The F160 also draws its proportions from the characteristic silhouette of the “66 model”. The rise is relatively high, while the upper leg retains comfortable room and a slightly rounded shape through the thighs. From there, the leg gradually narrows towards the hem, creating a gentle taper rather than an aggressively tapered silhouette.

FOB Factory has also carefully considered the length so the jeans can be worn naturally with a small cuff. Combined with the Indigo Used finish, these proportions allow the F160 to work equally well with casual outfits or more traditional and Ivy-inspired combinations.

Why we selected it

What particularly interests us about the F160 '66 Type is the consistency between its fabric, fit and ageing process. FOB Factory does not simply aim to produce a vintage-inspired pair of jeans: the brand begins by analysing period fabrics, recreates their dry hand through the use of air-spun yarn, develops a silhouette directly inspired by the “66 model”, and then takes the process further by manually recreating the nuances of indigo that has already undergone years of wear.

The result immediately carries the character of vintage denim without relying on uniform or exaggerated ageing. The richness of the indigo tones, irregularities of the fabric and gently rounded yet progressively tapered silhouette form a particularly coherent whole. It is precisely this combination of historical references, fabric development and Japanese denim-finishing expertise that makes the F160 particularly interesting to us.
